OakWelcome to Oak Class (Early Years Foundation Stage)

In the Early Years Foundation stage we have a dedicated and experience team of practitioners who promote the highest standards of learning for all our children. We welcome and value parents and believe and promote a strong parental partnership that will support your child to develop and make progress.

We strongly believe that the youngest children in our school should be given the opportunity to play, learn, develop and make progress in an environment that teaches them the knowledge and skills that they need. In the Foundation Stage (Reception) we use the Early Years Framework to support our planning but we also ensure that our Early Years philosophy underpins our practice on a daily basis.

In Reception, children’s interests and needs are planned for through adult focused and adult initiated sessions. Children are also give a significant amount of time to follow their own lines of enquiry through their child initiated play. Our environment gives children time to apply what they have learnt and revisit previous learning. All children are provided with rich and challenging experiences that support learning through a language rich, cross curricular approach.

Throughout the day, we use a strategy called ‘sustained and shared thinking’ where adults sensitively intervene in children’s play to move learning forward. Again, this ensures that we develop children’s language, knowledge and skills in order to optimize learning opportunities.

Our aim in Oak Class is to create autonomous and independent learners who have a thirst and drive to learn.
